You may be older than 40 and still feel like you’re in your 30s, but the fact is that you still have to be more careful about what you eat. As we grow older, our metabolism slows down, and things like blood pressure and cholesterol become harder to keep under control. That’s why we’ve made a list of the best superfoods that are safe to eat, even after your 40th birthday.

Almond flour

One of the most effective ways to stay healthy is to reduce the number of refined carbohydrates in your diet. Such carbohydrates can be found in pasta, bread, and crackers. However, you don’t have to dismiss these foods entirely: Just switch from refined flour to almond flour! This flour contains fewer carbohydrates, healthier fats, and even healthy proteins.

Pearl barley

One of the healthiest grains you can eat is pearl barley. The high fiber content within this superfood significantly lowers your cholesterol to a more manageable level. Pearl barley is also good for your heart, which is why you should consume this superfood more as you get older.

Chia seeds

Did you know that certain types of fats, such as omega-3s, can help you lose weight? It’s true! When you get older, your metabolism slows down, so you need extra help from your daily food intake. By adding chia seeds to your diet, for example, you create an easy way to increase your omega-3 intake!

Red onion

Red onions contain quercetin and anthocyanin, which are known to fight effectively against various types of cancer. Red onions encourage cancer cells to destroy themselves. French onion soup, please.

Carrots

If you don’t eat many foods that contain vitamin A, then simply nibble on a carrot! A medium-sized carrot can provide you with 200% of the daily prescribed intake. Fun fact: did you know that carrots keep your eyes sharp and ensure that your skin feels silky soft?
