Joint pain is the worst pain there is. When you stand or walk, the joint grinds. Joints are the reason we can move at all, but if they hurt – everything hurts. This pain can be caused by strain, strains, sprains, arthritis or old age.

Whatever the cause, you need a solution. Your doctor will probably prescribe a course of treatment, but with a chronic problem this is not always the solution. We help you with natural ways, so that you do not take any nasty side effects of medication.

1. Use the RICE method

RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. It is an acronym for a series of actions that can help both manage pain and reduce inflammation. Take enough rest so that the pain diminishes. Apply a cold compress to the painful area several times a day. Apply a compression bandage so that the swelling does not return, but do not over tighten it!

2. Tai Chi or Yoga

Although we just told you to rest, we now say that you need more exercise. However, you should perform an exercise as often as possible with little impact on the joint to improve flexibility. Tai Chi and Yoga are great options because they focus on the connection between mind and body. Thanks to the meditation aspect you learn how to deal with chronic pain.

3. Bark of a willow

Willow bark is called the ‘aspirin of nature’, and for good reason. The bark of a willow is found in capsules and tea, although some people prefer to just chew it. This way to reduce the pain has been used since 4000 years.

4. Ginger extract

Ginger is popular and is used in the kitchen, as a dietary supplement and in various ointments. It relieves nausea and pain. A study among patients with arthritis found that the use of ginger in combination with prescribed reduced pain more than they only used medication.

5. Heat therapy

Heat is a very good natural painkiller because it relaxes muscles. Heat therapy is often used in combination with cold therapy because they complement each other well. Cold therapy is best used within the first 24 hours after an accident, as it significantly reduces inflammation. Heat can then relieve the remaining pain and keep you as flexible as possible.
